Bardolino is an appellation adjacent to the more famous Valpolicella, usually producing wines that are lighter if very similar in flavor. Look for sour cherry, spicy, herbal, and tobacco aromas and a light, tart and slightly bitter palate. Good length; very Italian.

An indegenous varietal to Romania. This is the unmistakable jewel of Romanian wine and a fine discovery. Pairing suggestions: duck, pesto or dijon crusted meats, pork, spicy chicken, and spicy seafood dishes.

Gewurztraminer
Covey Run (Washington State) $15
The name literally means “Spice Traminer”, or “Perfumed Traminer”. Gewürztraminer is a variety with a pink to red skin colour, which makes it a “white wine grape” producing an off-dry wine, with a flamboyant bouquet of lychees. They may also have aromas of roses, passion fruit and floral notes. Its aromatic flavours have suggested Gewürztraminer as a wine that is suitable for drinking with Asian cuisine. It goes well with Hirtenkäse, Münster cheese, and fleshy, fatty (oily) wild game. Smoked salmon is a particularly good match. In the United States, it is concentrated in Monterey, Mendocino and Sonoma in California, the Columbia Valley of Washington and Oregon. It is also grown in Michigan, Rhode Island, Caddo County, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Indiana, Texas, Virginia, Maryland, New Mexico and the Finger Lakes and Long Island Regions of New York.

Verdelho
Divine Light (S. Australia)
Verdelho is a white wine grape grown throughout Portugal, though most associated with the island of Madeira, and also gives its name to one of the four main types of Madeira wine. The grape has been successful in the vineyards of Australia, particularly the South Burnett wine region in Queensland, Hunter Valley region, Langhorne Creek, Cowra and the Swan Valley. Australian versions of Verdelho are noted for their intense flavors with hints of lime and honeysuckle and the oily texture that the wines can get after some aging.

Moschofilero: unique to Mantinia area, Arcadia PeloponneseVilana: an island variety of Crete, Paros and Rhodes
Aghiorgitiko: also called St. George, black of Nemea from the Nemea area in Peloponnese. The so called Hercules wine
Xynomavro: Naoussa, Makedonia
Mandilaria: Isle of Crete, Rhodes, Paros

Palivou Agiorgitiko Deep, dark and thick colour with intensely fruity nose with cherries, forest fruits and baked raisin in balance with the characters of vanilla, dried fruits and chocolate that comes from the long aging process in the oak barrels. Thick and aggressive tannins that require time to smooth. Undoubtfully a wine that loves bottle and demands aging in cellar to unfold its merits
